Our county Covid-19 numbers have gone down to 8.15 cases per 100,000 which puts us in the yellow on the Covid Alert Map which can be found here https://coronavirus.health.ok.gov/covid-19-alert-system. The Navajo School Board met on Wednesday, August 5th to make evidence based decisions for the upcoming school year. Navajo Public Schools has decided to move the first day of school from Thursday, August 13th to Thursday, August 20th due to the current high-risk level of Covid-19 in Jackson County. As we look forward to starting school, Navajo will be assessing weekly
updates from the Covid Alert map provided by OSSBA (ossba.org/map) and guidelines set forth by the State Education Department 's safety protocol guidance, as well as the county-level case data as reported by the State Health Department. The color levels on the OSSBA map will guide us on when it is safe to come to school. Details on whether we will meet traditionally or virtually will be released Friday, August 14,2020. An updated school calendar will be posted today. Virtual Meet the Teacher has moved to Thursday, August 13th and we will also have a virtual New Student and 7th grade orientation offered virtually. Navajo teachers will be in contact with parents and students to set-up and plan for a great virtual meet the teacher day soon.
Supply drop-off for Pre-K and Kindergarten. On August 6th and 7th, Thursday and Friday, parents will be able to drop off their Pre-K or Kindergarten student's supplies from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. This will be a curbside drop off at the west end of the elementary building. We recommend taking advantage of this opportunity since parents will not be able to enter the building on August 13th.
As we prepare for the start of the new school year, we would like your input as to which type of learning you would prefer for your child(ren). Please complete the questionnaire found at the following link. Thank you.

Dear Navajo Family,

We plan to POST the Navajo Public Schools Q&A document with Return to School details tomorrow after the State School Board Meeting.
Thank you for your patience during this challenging planning time.

Dear Navajo Family,
As Superintendent of Navajo Public Schools, I want to express my gratitude for your patience and partnership! I know our students and parents are eager to know what school is going to look like this year. We have tried to wait to communicate with you in order to have the most up to date information moving into the 2020-2021 school year!
Please keep in mind that the challenges we are all facing with COVID change daily. We need to all have a POSITIVE OUTLOOK and try not to get bogged down in all the negativity.
The safety of our students and staff are TOP priority, and at the same time our goal is to host a Positive School environment for our students/staff to come to and have the most normal school day as possible each and every day!
Yes, we are planning to have school start on August 13, 2020! We will have many safety Precautions in place, along with extra custodians this year to ramp up cleaning! SOME changes you will notice are: Water bottle refill station swill replace water fountains, social distancing will be encouraged. At this time, masks will be strongly encouraged …but not mandated however, Masks will be required on the bus routes, as social distancing won’t be possible. Parents are welcome to bring their children to school! Visitors will be served curbside, as we want to limit entry into our school buildings.
We are even installing UV-C Lights in all of our HVAC systems to improve the indoor air quality and kill germs and viruses in our buildings!
Our Leadership Team is working on a document to answer lots of questions about the procedures of the 2020-2021 school year! We should have Draft#1 out by Wednesday, July 22, 2020! We will have administrator emails listed in this Q&A for our parents to contact, with any questions/concerns/input! Remember….this will be DRAFT#1!
We recently posted an UPDATED 2020-2021 school calendar on Facebook! Please take a few minutes to look at it! We have added in 2 virtual days a month, which was highly approved of in the parent survey we sent out in June! These days will help prepare students and staff for long term Distance Learning, IF THE NEED ARISES. Please note, that the situation we are in with COVID is unpredictable and ever changing! IF and WHEN it looks like we won’t NEED long term Distance Learning this school year, we could take another look at our school calendar and remove the Monthly Distance Learning Days! What a BLESSING that would be!
The State School Board has a meeting scheduled next week, as well! I anticipate specific direction from the State School Board in a few decisions we are in the process of making. We are also in contact with local, County and State health officials and value their input on our Return to School procedures, as well! We will be following state, federal and CDC guidelines!
IF you, as a parent, have specific questions/concerns please email administrators at Navajo School. Email addresses available on the school website www.navajo.k12.ok.us.
Thank you for choosing Navajo Public Schools for your children’s education! We are Thankful for each and every member of the Navajo Family!
Respectfully,
